A Lament for the Human Touch: Embracing Robotic Machines
The Following Article is an Opinion Piece written by The Anonymous Author Mullane. This article respresents his views and not that of The Anonymous Publishing House. Free speech as well as freedom of expression and opinion are a fundimental and natural right for all. Censorship will only ever silence the truth and in the persuit of free speech there may be times where you read words objectionable to you and your beliefs. We might not agree with the words written below, but we will fight til our last breath for the authors rights to say them.
I am the only one who thinks the human race will be replaced by robotic machines?
Yesterday, I took my Grandson after his footy match to McDonald's. I went to the counter and waited, but a whole lot of uninformed young staff were busy. I asked politely, "Can I get served?" A gangly youth told me to use the computer screen. I asked if this is the only way McDonald's serves now, and I was given a smart arse answer, 'Yes, better learn how." I told him, "No, forget it," and walked out. An older gentleman standing behind me, who was also waiting to be served, heard what just took place, and he walked out too.
Banks are no different. I go to my bank, an ANZ, and I line up, but there are no tellers. I asked, "Can you get a teller, please?" and was told, "We don't have manned services; you can do it all via the machines. I will show you how." I stated, "You can show me how to close my account." A woman came over and asked which account. I showed her, and with a delighted smile on her face, she said, "This account is in two names; you will have to attend with the other person." At this stage, I was ready to tell her to insert my cheque book where I guess no man had been for a long time. However, I got smart and left 80 cents in my account, meaning they will have to post me an account every month costing them $1.10.
My troubles never stopped there. I did a big shop at Coles, but I noticed no cash register was open; all self-checkout. I asked, "Can someone serve me, please?" Again I was told it's self-serve, but I stood there saying I don't understand, and the lady priced my goods and bagged them, the same as a manned checkout would do. Sorry, I mean personed checkout.
My troubles continued that day. I went to my regular car wash, offered my $20, only to be told no more cash; credit card only. Of course, I have a credit card, but my mood was bad, so I thought, "No, forget them." So the attendant had to get all the cars lined up behind me to back out to let me out.
The same happens now when you ring a company or government department. You get the same message: "You know now you can access our website to get help at WWW.ABC, whatever."
Now, when people don't have a job because machines have taken over, what will the world be? Will we all be chipped? Modern technology is not good for us.
